Oooh, What Do You Do In The Summertime...?

Spring fever has hit the Coil household. Matthew raked the leaves that had blown into the garden over the winter and underneath were 4" tulip leaves. Kids came to seminary class last week with flip-flops and shorts on, rather than pants and snowboots. The forsythia is leafing out and the sound of kids playing in the yard came through our open windows today. It sounded like a good opportunity to get out the camera. Here are a few shots of our Saturday.

So what do you like to do in the summertime? I know Lauren is looking forward to her favorite holiday, the fourth of July. I love having the windows open and letting the fresh air blow from one end of the house to the other. We survived another winter, summer is almost here. Hello to fresh lemonade and home-grown, garden tomatoes.

"Goodnight Gracie"

So I have been following a blog for awhile created by Uncle Sam's step-daughter, Alicia. It is their story of their daughter, Grace, who was born with a serious heart defect and eventual heart transplant. On their blog is a link to another blog about a little girl, also named Grace, and her story of her short life. It has touched me deeply and I have been sharing her story with my early morning seminary class. They have prayed for her and her parents every morning for several months. Grace passed away this week, but her story will live forever and she continues to influence me to be a better person. If you are interested, here is the blog that you can look at:

If you are moved to hold your children a little longer tonight before saying "goodnight", you can thank Gracie. Somehow I think she may know that her life has changed me for the better and I will always be grateful to her and her parents for sharing a very difficult time of their lives with me and the world.

ABC's...and #2

The only thing I like better than watching my grandkids through a camera lense, is watching them watch themselves. Porter has known his ABC's for years, but as soon as he saw himself on camera, he was lost.

D. asked me to rent some chick flicks for when she came home from the hospital after having Cameron. I so rarely rent movies that I didn't pay much attention to the rating. Ooops! So much for being a good example. It's OK, I took it back on the way home from the hospital.

Abbie's Pre-school Graduation

I spent some time this week downloading old videos from our camera to the computer. There were 3 graduation ceremonies on it with Abbie and Porter graduating from pre-school to Andy's graduation from medical school. They are all fun memories.

Cameron at 4 months

Cameron is getting to be so much fun. He loves his mom the most, but he will smile for about everyone. He watches everything and everyone, especially Sammie. He is rolling over occasionally, but it is still accidental. His hair is definitely red at this point, but his skin seems to be a little darker than the average redhead. We love him and his big blue eyes.

January birthdays

So January has turned into our big birthday month. We have Samantha, Amelia, Madison, Porter and me. When I started this blog I set a goal to do a special post for everyone's birthday, but I am way behind for 2009. I have some new pictures of some of the birthday celebrities, but not everyone, so I will do the best I can. I will try to write about each of them in the next few days, but for now everyone has to be happy with the pictures.

Aubrey did some interior decorating while Chris was in Italy. She painted Abbie's room with a High School Musical theme. She also bought new curtains with beads. What little girl wouldn't love it. Abbie just couldn't stop smiling.

Jake's elk, Preston's fun

Jake shot an elk on Thursday , late afternoon. Preston and Matthew went with Jake on Saturday to get the elk out and bring it home.
This was Preston's first snowmobile ride. He said it was both fun and scary. The snow is about four feet deep under his feet.

We stopped by jungle gym forest to see how things looked. The snow was pretty deep here. We will go back when the weather is warmer.

Preston made a dozen snow angels along the side of the road, and he wrote his name. He is always looking for fun things to do.
Clay Stringham showed up. That is Riley ridge behind him. It was a gorgeous day, we have had so many fun times here through the years.
